I was new, too, a few years ago. Seems like forever! Do you mean putting up a blog like this one ... just information and no monetization? Create your site with CPMage and just add one post (I think you have to add at least one post when using CPMage). Don't choose any of the monetization methods. After your site is created you login to your wp-admin area, click on posts/add new and start typing. Just do it and you'll soon see it's easy and fun. I think Wordpress is the easiest platform to use for doing your own thing. The key is not to be intimidated by it ... it won't bite and you can always delete the posts and start over.
