Hi Alstonian,

Here are definitions I found by searching Google:

"Shared hosting is Web hosting in which the service provider serves pages for multiple Web sites, each having its own Internet domain name, from a single Web server. Most Web hosting companies provide shared hosting. Although shared hosting is a less expensive way for businesses to create a Web presence, it is usually not sufficient for Web sites with high traffic...."

"Reselling, or reseller web hosting, is selling web hosting to your customers under your own brand when the web hosting is provided by a larger company. This larger company is selling you a large web hosting account which you then break apart to sell as smaller quantities to your clients." [You can purchase a reseller hosting account and then "sell yourself" the other space for your Mage business]

"Dedicated server refers to the rental and exclusive use of a computer that includes a Web server, related software, and connection to the Internet, housed in the Web hosting company's premises." [You do not share space with other website owners with a dedicated server - but you may do so if you want to, and have the skills to manage a server. Your dedicated server, in this case, would become a shared hosting server].

You can certainly start with a shared server enviornment as they are very inexpensive. I have a dedicated server but I also use shared hosting accounts because I don't want to put all my "eggs in one basket" so to speak. Servers are just computers and they can and do crash.

I do not put more than 10 sites on a shared hosting account, although the recommendation is 20 - 30. I haven't had any problems with being shut down by a host by being conservative. You can put as many as you want to put - even your entire 60 sites; BUT ... that's a lot of cpu and your host might shut you down if you use more than 10% of their resources - even though they say "unlimited." None is truly unlimted!

So, it's not really a question of "how many CAN I put on" a server - dedicated or shared or reseller. It is a question of whether you *should* put all of your sites on one server.

In my opinion that's not very wise at all. Less is better.

What's the difference among those 3 types of hosting services Linda? I was told to use shared hosting to begine with, 30 domains per shared host. Just about everyone recommend Gator and Pronet, what if I have over 60 sites. I bet there are people have over 200 sites esp when they are making money. How do those people manage their sites hosting plans?

What exactly is a reseller program, am I selling something? Also, how's the dedi server works, how many domains I can put on a server? Hope those are not dump questions.....
