One way to make your blog stand out from the crowd is to create a unique, static front page.
What do I mean by “static”?
Simply that it doesn’t change. Without a static front page your site’s home page will change each time you add a blog post. This might be what you want, and if so, don’t bother with this step.
BUT, if you want to get the most SEO bang for your money, you really should consider using a static front page, optimized for your site’s niche. You can control how your site is listed in the Search Engines and you can control how your site looks by creating a unique front page.
So, how do you do that?
- Login to your wp-admin Dashboard.
- Click on Pages / Add New
- Paste or type your content in the box provided and give it a keyword-rich title (based on your site’s niche).
- Scroll Down and, on the right you will see a block with “Include this page in user menus. Un-tic that box. (this assumes you have installed the Exclude Pages plugin)
- Publish.
- Now Scroll down and in the left sidebar you will see Settings.
- Click on Settings / Reading. At the top of this page you will see “Reading Settings” and below that you will see the option to choose a front page display.
- Tic the box that says “A Static Page”.
- In the drop-down box, choose the page you just created. go to bottom and click “Save Changes.”
Congratulate yourself! You have just created a static front page.

Can you give an Example of this kind of page???????
I’m not sure what it should look like????
Thanks
Hi Anita,
A good example is found on this site. Each time you visit you will see the same front page. I simply created a page (not a blog post) in my wp-admin and went to Settings/General and chose the page I created to be my home page. You can also make a blog post and do the same thing … you would just choose the blog post you want to be your home page in your Admin General Settings.
Linda
Hello Linda,
Thanks for your how to above. I made one static page but the title on its navigation tab above is the title of the article. How can I change this to HOME? Also, the template already has a Home page and there is an article on this page generated automatically by the CPMage. But I don’t want this as Home page.
Another thing, why images automatically posted are out of sense (specifically, babies) when I don’t have baby, babies, infants, kids, children as keywords?
Thanks for your help.
Maria
I have been also using static pages for my Mage sites, and I think it gives a real boost to my traffic since this page is highly optimized for my keywords. Not sure if anybody else is doing that, but I’m using some techniques similar to the “google sniper” approach, using very specific keywords that have little competition and then backing that main static page up with a bunch (100-500) more related keywords in regular blog posts. Not sure how many others are doing this, I suspect I’m not alone!
Hope this helps
